Agilewaves Announces Energy Management System For Building Owners
System Part of Green Retrofit Trend at Apartment and Office Facilities
Agilewaves today announced the release of the Building Optimization System (BOStm) for energy efficiency retrofits in existing buildings. The system provides real time feedback on energy and non-energy resources for built environments.
“Too often there’s a disconnect between the energy modeling done in isolated, one-time commissioning projects, and what really happens in day-to-day building operations,” said Cary Vandenberg, Agilewaves CEO. “Ongoing monitoring is the single best way to tune building performance, and we believe that the foundation of any green retrofit project will be an energy monitoring system.”
“The persistent monitoring provided by Agilewaves, translates into real, measurable, and more important, on-going energy efficiency gains”, noted Vandenberg. “We help building owners identify the hidden opportunities for efficiency that drives reduced costs of operation and maintenance.”
Agilewaves provides a turnkey system featuring a sensor network, robust data store, building optimization engine and customizable dashboard. Alerts provide building managers with real-time information on electricity, water, and gas use at the individual circuit level. The system can also be integrated with building control systems to generate alerts for corrective actions.
As a turnkey IT system, Agilewaves can be rapidly deployed without the need for permits or construction delays. At the Johnson Square apartment complex in Baltimore, it measures electricity, water, and gas utilization via 1200 sensors. The project involves measurements for electric in individual apartment units, main gas and water, and main electricity for common areas. Temperature and humidity readings are taken via a wireless system, allowing for a way to discern comfort levels for tenants. Brian Poulin, a Principal of Evergreen Partners, the building owner, notes, “ I selected Agilewaves because their solution blends the latest in Internet technologies with real-time, accurate sub-metering information that underpins our charter to provide energy efficient, low cost housing.”
At an Equity Office facility in Palo Alto, California, the Agilewaves system monitors electric, water and temperatures. “We’ve never had access to data like this”, said Bill Hopper, Chief Engineer. One of the nation’s leading commercial real estate firms, Equity Office is using the system to verify HVAC efficiency and optimize electricity and water usage for office and data center operations. A key decision factor was ease of installation. “It’s a turnkey system, and was very easy to layer into our operation without any disruption”, Hopper added.
The BOS(tm) energy management system is part of the new Existing Buildings Commissioning (EBCx) trend which goes beyond typical re-commissioning efforts with the addition of advanced tools to make building systems perform interactively.
CEO Vandenberg concludes, “Buildings are increasingly complex, with sophisticated control systems running alongside technologies that have not changed in decades and have no instrumentation. Our turnkey approach can quickly provide the operational insight for both new and old building systems, and provide the infrastructure to achieve high performance, energy efficient buildings.”
