Agilewaves To Help Energy Management Professionals Tap Green Building Trend

Virtual Submetering Meets CALGreen, LEED, Building Retrofit Incentive Programs

Agilewaves, an energy management systems firm, announced a new partner program for engineers, designers, contractors, commissioning experts and sustainability consultants focused on Green Building projects.

Agilewaves provides a turnkey energy monitoring system featuring: virtual submetering via a sensor network, a robust data store with discrete measurements; and advanced analytical reporting capabilities. A customizable dashboard and alerts also provide building managers with real-time information on electricity, water, and gas use at the individual circuit level.

Agilewaves virtual submetering capabilities became even more important as California moved last week to be first in the nation to adopt a mandatory statewide green building code called CALGreen. The legislation mandates energy monitoring to record and store energy use data for each major energy system in a building.

The Agilewaves Building Optimization System (BOStm) supplies the rigorous, metrics and analytical capabilities called for in the CALGreen regime, as well as other green building certification programs such as LEED-EB for existing buildings.

Cary Vandenberg, CEO of Agilewaves, noted, “Whether it’s a commissioning, retro-commissioning, building retrofit, ENERGY STAR or LEED project, the Agilewaves system provides a great foundation for consultants to be a valued Green Building advisor.

A key tool for monitoring-based commissioning (MBCx) projects, the Agilewaves system provides the performance measurement foundation for building energy efficiency projects. Vandenberg continues, “Agilewaves is a complete, turnkey solution, which allows us to get a project off the ground quickly and show immediate results. The system’s sub-metering capabilities provide the detailed, real-time metrics that building owners need to optimize operations and reduce energy costs.”

“We also have a flexible set of tools that enable partners to customize performance charts and alerts to optimize an implementation for each client”, said Vandenberg. “This is a great design opportunity for partners that want to propose high-performance building projects for their clients.”

“Agilewaves essentially provides a building performance management infrastructure which gives consultants the basis for on-going engagements. I think of it as “persistent monitoring” leading to “persistent projects” for our partners”, noted Vandenberg.

The Agilewaves system will also be essential to new monitoring requirements in LEEDv3 projects and building retrofits incentives programs. In addition to existing incentive programs, cities such as San Francisco (via SF Squared) and New York City (with PLANYC) are vying for green building leadership, by sponsoring building retrofit incentive programs.

“We believe that 2010 will be the year of building retrofits, as the new incentive programs kick in. Emerging municipal programs such as CaliforniaFIRST are great examples of the new incentives which will accelerate energy monitoring in the built environment. Consultants will want to be at the forefront of helping their clients leverage these new incentives – and our system supplies the required baseline metrics to document improvements in energy intensity,” noted Vandenberg.

Details are now available on how energy monitoring can help building professionals offer new value-added services and to become a trusted Green Building Advisor for energy efficiency, LEED, or commissioning projects:
